A new Canadian airline is cleared for takeoff

A new Canadian leisure carrier has permission to launch.

Toronto-based Jetlines said Monday that it has received its domestic and international service licenses. The news followed the award by Transport Canada on Thursday of an air operating certificate for Jetlines.

The start-up airline will begin service with flights from Toronto’s Pearson Airport to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Moncton, New Brunswick, according to its website. The launch will come this fall, though Jetlines has not set the specific data.

Jetlines will begin service with a single Airbus A320 but plans to expand to 15 aircraft by 2025. The carrier also expects to eventually fly to the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean.

Jetlines will configure its A320s with 174 seats in a single cabin. Standard economy seats as well as extra-legroom seats will be on offer.

Jetlines is working with travel advisors; the nascent carrier has already reached a content agreement with the Amadeus GDS. It is also promising a modern web-booking platform that agents can use to generate revenue on reservations as well as ancillary products.
