More tourists to Greenland

In total, the Greenland hotels have had an increase of 13 percent in the 3rd quarter, covering the peak months of July, August and September.

Figures from Greenland Statistics, which support the presumption that the tourist industry has had a great season. There are primarily foreign guests who have stayed at the hotels in the 3rd quarter, where there were 25,008 foreign guests and 18,810 Greenlandic guests. There is a greater proportion of overnight stays by foreign guests in Ilulissat than in the other regions, states the Greenland Statistics.

Positiv

At the same time as the number of guests has risen, the number of hotel accommodations has also increased by a two-digit number. The increase was 11 per cent compared with the same period last year, and it was especially guests from the category “Other countries” and “Other Europe”, which draw the positive trend.

There are apparently fewer chartered flights in connection with cruises, which give fewer cruise guests. These tourists are spending more money in the country than the cruise guests who live and eat on board the ships.
