Qatar buys more of BA and Iberia

Qatar Airways has lifted its shareholding in British Airways owner International Airlines Group.

The Gulf carrier’s stake has increased from 21.4% to 25.1% for an undisclosed sum.

Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker said: “Our investment to date has been highly successful and the announced increase in our shareholding is evidence of our continued support of IAG and its strategy.

“Qatar Airways continues to consider opportunities to invest in airlines and support management teams that share our vision to enhance travel opportunities for airline passengers across the globe.”

The move follows long-term IAG chief executive Willie Walsh announcing that he will be standing down on March 26 to be succeeded by Iberia boss Luis Gallego.
