Continued growth in the Faroes

From January to March 2016 has raised 56,138 passengers via Vagar Airport. This is an increase of 5,317 persons or 10.5% compared to the first three months of 2015.

Vagar Airport other hand, had expected a decrease in the number of passengers the first quarter of 2016 compared to the first quarter of 2015. The reason was that in March 2015 saw solar eclipse in the Faroe Islands. This gave the airport 4,000 extra passengers. Despite this, the figures for the first quarter 2016, an increase compared to 2015.

Some of the success is because it has become cheaper to fly to and from the Faroe Islands. Easter was also in March this year and has contributed positively to the first quarter. In addition, hotels and restaurants announced that there have been more tourists in the Faroe Islands in the first quarter of this year than the previous year.

“Vagar Airport would like to work closely with the Faroese travel industry. The airport works closely with Visit Vagar and VisitFaroeIslands so that the airport can be a partner in the effort to promote the Faroe Islands as an attractive tourist destination, “says Jákup Sverri Kass, director at Vagar Airport.

Vagar Airport has made major investments in recent months. The airport has purchased two new fire engines, which has increased the airport’s emergency category to CAT 7 airport. In addition, Vagar Airport invested in new equipment to the tower, new measurement equipment and more.
