New award for tourism in the West Nordic Region

The West Nordic Travel Award.
For the first time one from each country will be awarded the West Nordic Travel Award.

West Nordic Travel Award is the name of a newly established award in the tourism industry. The prize will be awarded to a Greenland, Faroese and Icelandic tourist person, company or association in the West Nordic Travel Mart, which this year takes place on the Faroes.

The annual tourist exhibition and workshop Vestnorden Travel Mart offers this year regular news when incoming operators from Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Iceland late September meet in Torshavn on the Faroe Islands to present their products to buyers from all over the world.

For the first time one from each country will be awarded the West Nordic Travel Award. Behind the initiative are the three directors of tourism councils Ólöf Yrr Atladóttir from Iceland, Anders Stenbakken from Greenland and Guðrið Højgaard from the Faroe Islands with Carsten Elsted, publisher of the trade journal TTO Scandinavia for the Nordic travel industry and also creator of the Danish Travel Award for almost 20 years ago.

-Time tas come to give recognition to the actors in the West Nordic region operating in an increasingly difficult and competitive market and it seems the VNTM’s 30-year anniversary is a very good occasion to start this new award, the three directors say.

Everyone has the opportunity to suggest a person, an company or organization rooted in tourism. The criteria for being chosen is that the candidates have made an innovative, responsible or sustainable move.

A panel of judges consisting of Carsten Elsted and directors from the three countries touristboards then select the recipients of the newly established award.

The recipients of this year’s awards will be presented during the West Nordic Travel March gala dinner Wednesday, September 23.
