Vagar reports record profit

Vagar Airport on the Faroe Islands set a new record with 292,393 passengers in 2016.

Passenger-figures rose by a total of 5, 8 per cent last years. Furthermore the financial-result for 2016 showed a profit of 7,7MDKK.

Jakup Sverri Kass, CEO of the airport:

“2016 was the busies year in the history of Vagar Airport, and the financial result the best that the airport has ever had. In 2016, the national carrier of the Faroe Islands Atlantic Airways had a record number of routes and there were a record number of ad hoc charters at Vagar Airport.”

26th of March 2017, saw the introduction of a new carrier to serve the Faroe Islands, with the arrival of the first SAS flight from Copenhagen.

In October the airport aims to increase the landside parking-area by some 400 parking-spaces, totaling over 800 parking-spaces at the airport

“Faroese tourism has undergone a remarkable transformation since the funding of the tourism organization Visit Faroe Islands was doubled in 2012. The tourism-sector has been professionalized and the tourist-experience greatly improved. The combination of growing domestic demand, a healthy economy and the growth of tourism lays the ground for the growth of our passenger-figures”, Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO at Vagar Airport says.
