Viking to sail Norway

Viking Cruises said it will give passengers a chance to see the aurora borealis on winter Arctic cruises, beginning January 2019.

In doing so, Viking said it will become the first U.S. cruise line to offer a full-length itinerary in the Arctic Circle in the winter season.

Viking said the 13-day cruises on the Viking Sky will visit seven destinations — with overnights in Tromso, Alta and Bergen, Norway,

Hurtigruten to the US

Norwegian coastal and expedition line Hurtigruten said it plans for the first time to sail itineraries in North America, starting in April 2018.

Among the cruises are New England/Canada voyages. The line is sailing two cruises between Halifax and New York – an eight-day and an 11-day sailing. One 16-day cruise will sail roundtrip from New York.

Hurtigruten also will operate 13-day northbound and southbound cruises traveling between Miami and Halifax. These cruises call in Charleston, Boston, New York and three ports in Maine: Bucksport, Rockland and Bar Harbor.

A 17-day cruise between Copenhagen and Halifax will include Newfoundland and Labrador.

There will also be a 14-day voyage between Halifax and Iceland.

Hurtigruten’s North America cruises will sail on the expedition ship Fram.
