Vegas open for business

As Las Vegas continues to take steps toward a full reopening, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak recently announced his goal of increasing business capacity to 100 percent at all venues without social distancing in the near future.

  1. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) will transition to local counties on May 1 and Clark County officials have received state approval of its Local Mitigation Plan.
  2. Large Gatherings with less than 20,000 people can be approved at three feet social distancing with up to 80 percent capacity.
  3. A COVID-19 Preparedness & Safety Plan is required to be submitted for large gatherings over 250 people.

This is the result of positive indicators including the stabilization of new cases of the virus and the wide availability of vaccines. This critical step demonstrates further confidence that Las Vegas is poised to safely welcome visitors and host large gatherings, including meetings and conventions.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) will transition to local counties on May 1 and Clark County officials have received state approval of its Local Mitigation Plan. Some measures outlined will be implemented on May 1 and restrictions will be removed entirely when 60 percent of the population has started the vaccination process. Currently, approximately 46 percent of Nevadans have started the vaccination process.

Highlights of Clark County’s plan are as follows:

Large Gatherings with less than 20,000 people can be approved at three feet social distancing with up to 80 percent capacity if:

– The venue is outdoors or if indoors and the area is well ventilated

– 50 percent of the community has completed their first dose of the vaccination

  • Capacity can increase to 100 percent with no social distancing with less than 20,000 attendees if:

– All attendees have either completed their vaccination for COVID-19 at least 14 days prior to the event or are tested using a PCR test 24-48 hours prior to the event and have evidence of a negative test results

– The venue is outdoors or if indoors the area is well ventilated

– 50 percent of the community has completed their first dose of the vaccination

  • A COVID-19 Preparedness & Safety Plan is required to be submitted for large gatherings over 250 people to the Clark County Recovery Organization Enforcement Group.
  • Large gatherings and events with prior approval from the Nevada Department of Business & Industry would be considered approved plans under the local authority.
  • Those large gatherings and events approved by the Nevada Department of Business & Industry with stricter capacity and social distance requirements would be able to request approval to comply with the capacity and social distancing requirements as outlined under the County’s proposed plan. Such requests would need to be submitted to the Clark County Recovery Enforcement Workgroup.
  • Once 60 percent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated, capacity at venues can increase to 100 percent with no social distancing.
  • At that time, event organizers will no longer need to submit large gathering plans, although mitigation measure are still encouraged.

In addition to the above guidelines, a variety of stringent “Vegas Smart” measures will remain in place at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) and throughout the destination to keep visitors safe, from arrival to departure.
